Some tips on taking your passport photo<\/strong><\/p>\n* Find a place that has a plain off-white\/light coloured wall to use as background or use an off-white bed sheet as a background.
\n* Stand away from the wall by about 2 to 3 feet (0.7m to 1m) to minimize shadows on the background.
\n* Try taking the photos at a time when there is good indirect natural light. If the light is not uniform and darker on one side compared to the other then turn the camera\u2019s flash on to Manual, to force the camera to apply flash. Flash will uniformly brighten the face and this will result in nice passport photos.
\n* Keep camera around 4 to 5 feet (1.2m to 1.5m) away from the subject and at eye-level.
\n* ZOOM IN a little to give a half length shot (include to top of the head!). NB \u2013 Do not send us a cropped image \u2013 we prefer to crop it.
\n* Remember this rule: Keep eyes open and mouth closed while being photographed for a Passport photo.
\n* If you wear glasses we recommend removing them for your photo.
\n* Some headwear is permitted for religious grounds, but the general rule is that it must not be worn, and the face must be seen in full.<\/p>\n
Important!! Please read and comply with all the rules below to ensure acceptance by the passport office.<\/p>\n
The rules for passport photos<\/strong>
\nThe photographs you supply with your application must:<\/p>\n\n- show you with a neutral expression and your mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows)<\/li>\n
- show you on your own (babies should not have toys or a dummy, and there shouldn\u2019t be other people in the photo)<\/li>\n
- be in colour, not black and white<\/li>\n
- be identical<\/li>\n
- be taken within the last month<\/li>\n
- be 45 millimetres high x 35 millimetres wide \u2013 this is the standard size when you have a passport photo taken in a photo booth or studio (you should not trim a larger photograph to meet this condition)<\/li>\n
- be clear and in sharp focus, with a clear difference between your face and the background<\/li>\n
- be taken against a plain cream or plain light grey background<\/li>\n
- not show you with red-eye<\/li>\n
- be of you facing forward and looking straight at the camera<\/li>\n
- not be torn, creased, or marked<\/li>\n
- be printed on plain white photographic paper<\/li>\n
- be free from shadows<\/li>\n
- be taken with your eyes open and clearly visible (no sunglasses or tinted glasses and no hair across your eyes)<\/li>\n
- be free from reflection or glare on your glasses, and the frames must not cover your eyes \u2013 the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) recommends that, if possible,\u00a0you remove your glasses<\/li>\n
- be professionally printed (photographs printed at home are not likely to be of an acceptable quality)<\/li>\n
- show your full head, without any head covering, unless you wear one for religious beliefs or medical reasons<\/li>\n
- be taken with nothing covering your face \u2013 you should make sure nothing covers the outline of your eyes, nose or mouth<\/li>\n
- be a close-up of your head and shoulders with a recommended head height (the distance between the bottom of your chin and the crown of your head) between 29 and 34 mm<\/li>\n
